A long-awaited return to rugby finally arrived this weekend as Camberley Senior Academy travelled to Chobham for a much‑needed friendly. With the season delayed due to the rock‑hard ground, this fixture offered a valuable chance to stretch legs, test combinations, and shake off the rust. A large travelling squad ensured plenty of rotation and learning opportunities- exactly what a pre‑cup match should deliver.
Despite the lack of recent match play, Camberley settled quickly and looked in good shape. Yes, there were a few rusty moments and some avoidable errors, but the intent, physicality, and structure were all encouraging. The boys built pressure well and took a deserved lead into half‑time.
Although the result slipped away at the end, Camberley can take real confidence from the performance. The squad looked physically ready, the shape was solid, and the effort was unquestionable. For a first run‑out of the season, it was exactly the kind of test needed.
Thank you to Chobham for hosting and giving both squads a valuable pre-cup training match. We wish them all the best for their upcoming season.
