Pinks Hold Their Nerve to Claim Bronze Stoop Cup Thriller

Pinks Hold Their Nerve to Claim Bronze Stoop Cup Thriller

Louise Randall26 Apr - 18:41

A dominant first half and heroic late defence seal Camberley’s 33–31 victory.

Under bright sunshine at Guildford Rugby Club, the Junior Academy Pinks arrived for the Bronze Stoop Cup final already facing a challenge: several players were unavailable through injury and illness, forcing the squad to dig deep and reshuffle. A number of players stepped into unfamiliar positions, but the spirit in the group was clear from the moment they ran out onto the hard, dusty pitch for the 2:30pm kick‑off.

Despite the disruptions, Camberley made an electric start. Their intent was obvious- fast tempo, sharp handling, and relentless pressure. The makeshift combinations clicked impressively, and the Pinks dominated the opening half. Strong carries, smart support lines, and disciplined defence saw them surge into a commanding 28-5 lead by half‑time, a testament to both their preparation and their adaptability.

But finals rarely follow a simple script. Old Reigatians B emerged for the second half with renewed determination, and the momentum swung dramatically. They began to find space, build phases, and apply sustained pressure, testing Camberley’s reshuffled defence. Slowly but surely, the gap closed.

What had looked like a comfortable lead turned into a tense, breath‑holding finale. With the score tightening to 33-31, every tackle and clearance became crucial. The Pinks were forced to show real grit -not just skill, but heart, communication, and trust in one another, especially with players operating out of position.

In those final minutes, Camberley held firm. Under immense pressure, they stayed composed, defended bravely, and refused to let the game slip away. When the final whistle blew, the relief and pride were unmistakable. A 33-31 victory, earned the hard way.

This was more than a cup final win. It was a display of resilience, adaptability, and team spirit. Missing players, positional changes, and a fierce second‑half comeback from the opposition -the Pinks overcame it all to lift the Bronze Stoop Cup as deserving champions.
