Despite a final scoreline of 37–7 in favour of Teddington, the Camberley Junior Academy Blacks delivered a performance full of grit, determination, and defensive resilience in front of their home crowd.
From the opening whistle, the Blacks showed heart and tenacity, absorbing wave after wave of pressure from a well-drilled Teddington side. Their defensive structure held firm for large stretches of the game, frustrating the visitors and forcing errors in key moments.
The highlight for Camberley came courtesy of Ethan, who broke through the Teddington line with a powerful run to score the Blacks’ only try of the match. He then calmly slotted the conversion, bringing the home side’s tally to seven. Ethan’s performance earned him the title of Man of the Match.
Even Teddington’s coach acknowledged the closeness of the contest, stating:
“The boys enjoyed the game and I think the score line flattered Teddington a little bit as the game was much closer contested and harder fought than it suggested at the final whistle.”
While the scoreboard may not reflect the intensity of the match, the Blacks can take pride in their spirited display and the lessons learned from a tough opponent. With performances like this, the future looks bright for the Blacks.
