Convincing Bonus Point win against Farnham sees smiles at Watchetts

With the disappointing performance in Putney last week still fresh in players minds the visit of local rivals Farnham took on even more significance on this bright September afternoon.
In the event the black and ambers celebrated Presidents Lunch with a convincing bonus point win to get their hunt for promotion back on track.
The game saw Farnham kick off with Cam defending the clubhouse end and they were first to test the new(ish) electronic scoreboard and its operator on 4 mins when they kicked a penalty but Cam showed what they are capable of when we saw quick ball from a ruck was spread wide and prop Thunderman had the vision to release the backs with an exquisite pass and the Flying Fijian and George did the rest with George dotting down in the corner for a great try and with Smarty adding the extras from the touchline the score after 10 mins was 7-3.
The next 10 mins saw both sides testing each other out and this included a bout of handbags following the breakup of a scrum but when Cam won another pen for a cheap shot on Tom Chennell play moved into the Farnham 22.
A further penalty saw Smarty force a 5m lineout and a great catch and drive saw #2 Connor last up and claiming the try and with Smarty adding the extras with another outstanding kick the score had moved on to 14-3 with 21 mins played.
The next 15 mins saw Cam gain more control of the game but they were down to 14 men when a high tackle was spotted by the official. However the numerical difference seemed to make little difference to Cam and on 37mins Smarty slotted another pen to extend the lead.
Cam lost another player to the bin just before the break but even with this numerical mismatch the visitors did not have the ability to make it count.
Restored to 14 men after the break Cam thrust the dagger even deeper into the visitors hearts when they extended their lead. Despite conceding 2 soft penalties from the restart Cam regained their composure and the ball and playing it out wide the ball passed through many pairs of hands before Tom Chennell dotted down for a try with just 3 mins of the half played and from the restart the 14 made it even more difficult for the visitors when following another great period of play with backs and forwards interchanging we saw Tom dot down under the posts for his second and the bonus point try.
Back to full strength Cam were clearly in control and on 59 mins a beautiful training ground move saw Smarty time his pass to perfection as George took a great line from the blind side wing to cut through a static defence and dot down for the 5th try , again converted by the young standoff who had an excellent game.
To their credit Farnham did come back in the final 5 mins to score 2 good tries but it was much too little too late.
This was a much improved performance by Cam with the forwards excellent in attack and defence, particularly strong at the lineout where Sam, Dom and Ed managed to disrupt much of the Farnham ball while the backs looked sharp and were well managed by Tom and Smarty but the big plus was definitely with the ball going wide and the manner in which forwards and backs combined so well. On a personal note stand out performances by Ed at #8, our Ozzie Greg and Smarty and good first time run outs for the Flying Fijian, Big Dom, TommyA and The Warrior, its good to see them back, but everyone must be very satisfied with their own performance (although not too satisfied!!)

Next week we travel to Guildford, well actually Godalming to meet more local rivals who after todays games are 2-0.

And Finally - So after a long wait the Prem is about to start with the C&Ws travelling to Saints next week for their opening game in what will probably another challenging season for the lads from Castle Grim but we always dream!!
