Cam Weather Storm to Claim Points

This was Cam's first visit to Horsham and they were clearly intent on putting last week's poor display behind them which, despite a very combative Horsham side and playing in horrendous weather conditions, they managed with something to spare.
With a strong breeze blowing down the pitch together with heavy rain for most of the game these were definitely not the conditions to suit Cam's expansive game and it was absolutely not a day for supporters.
Cam started proceedings playing into the elements and for most of the first half they managed conditions quite well and with the scrum again on top for most of the game and with Dom securing all of our front balls and also managing to disrupt a number of Horsham throws again the pack set a solid platform.
Despite this dominance Cam played most of the first period in their half and on 10 mins conceded a penalty which was converted by the hosts.
Despite playing the conditions well Horsham were let down by their poor discipline and eventually lost a player to the bin and Cam moved into the red zone and eventually we saw Nick Barry force his way over for an unconverted try on 22 mins.
Cam nearly added to their score when a great break out by TommyA saw the final pass going astray, butchering a nailed on score.
Despite the pristine looking plastic pitch and of course the complete lack of mud, conditions for both sides just deteriorated as handling proved to be a real challenge but towards the end of the half Cam managed to spend some time in the Horsham red zone and following a series of misdemeanours by the hosts at scrum, lineouts and driving mauls the black and ambers were awarded a penalty try stretching the score to 12-3 and that remained the score at halftime when players dashed off to have 15 mins in the warmth and dry of the changing room.

With the weather still atrocious, the second 40 proved to be little better than the first with play concentrated in the middle of the park and frankly with neither side offering much in attack as handling appeared to become even more difficult.
There were some powerful driving runs from Dom and we witnessed a Bazza special when he stepped off both legs in a mazy run which almost brought him his second try of the game – I thought Alun was teaching him the dark arts of propping not how to be a centre.
However in the final quarter we saw an neat passage of play which put Jaid free on the right and he had the pace and power to run in from the 22 to dive in at the corner.
So 17-3 the final score which was probably a fair reflection on a game in which the atrocious weather played such a big part.

Another win sees the black and ambers stay in touch at the top of the table and another good platform set up by the forwards. Again the front five were outstanding both in their set piece work but in their work in defence and also their willingness to take the ball forward.
It was good to see Ash and Tags return to the backs although it was clear that despite the lack of mud, handling was certainly not easy.

So we now have a week's break before we welcome Havant, currently second in the League, to Watchetts.

The 2s actually played their first League game of the season as they travelled to Farnham where they came second in a 20-17 game.

And Finally – yes it was good to be a C&W supporter yesterday as they claimed 5 points in their game at Castle Grim against Wasps to stay unbeaten and with a visit to Welford Road to look forward to next week.
