Unbeaten run ends with lacklustre performance.

On a bright but quite breezy Saturday afternoon at which both sides and the supporters celebrated the lives of two of our former players, Dave Short and Pete Hutchison, the black and ambers suffered their first defeat of the season just managing to grab a losing bonus point in the closing stages of what was a scrappy and also quite ill tempered game.
In what turned out to be almost a perfect storm Cam who have already been struggling with injuries before this weekend found that three more of their key players Oyoni, Ryan and Ash were missing following injuries picked up last week. To this add an opposition who were clearly up for the game and prepared for a street fight at any opportunity and this result was always on the cards.
In the end Cam were their own worse enemies as this was a game that, if they had played to their strengths and remained cool, should have been theirs to lose but despite being completely on top at scrum time for the entire game, something which the official seemed to overlook, poor decision making, too many missed tackles together with a lack of control when in possession saw the visitors deservedly claim the win.

The game started poorly for Cam when weak processes and sloppy tackling allowed the visitors to cross with only 3 mins played.
We then had a 20 min period when Cam started to play their game but it seemed that at as soon as they approached the red zone the opposition managed to force an error and it took until 30 mins when we saw TommyA, field a defensive kick in his own half and break forward supported by Hughsey with the pair taking play deep into the visitors red zone and quick ball saw Dom crash over for a try and with Smarty adding the extras Cam were back level.

Cam again did not manage the restart well and the final 10 mins of the half saw the visitors add 2 more converted tries to their score.

So with Cam playing towards the clubhouse it seemed vital that the first score of the second half needed to be to Cam but with the black and ambers moving into the visitors 22 another over ambitious effort was gratefully accepted for the visitors to claim their try bonus and create a mountain for Cam to climb.

At this stage and despite pushing the visitors pack all over the park somehow the rewards were just not forthcoming but the final quarter saw the coaches ringing some changes and eventually we saw a 5m scrum drive over with Hughsey claiming the touchdown after 70 mins.
This did seem to have the desired effect and we soon saw Dom and Nick charging out of their half and eventually taking play back down into the visitors red zone and it was that man Dom who eventually broke through a couple of tired tackles to claim his second of the day and with young Gary Hardy adding the extras this was just enough to gain a losing bonus point.

So with out doubt a poor day at the office for the good crowd who had come hoping to see their side consolidate their position at the top. Plenty of work ons for training this week before what will surely be another tough game away at Horsham next Saturday.

Meanwhile the 2s, played a friendly against London Irish Wanderers as their League game v Guildford was postponed and with the visitors playing uncontested scrums from the start Cam eventually went down 54-25.

And Finally – well at last the Prem has kicked off and the C&Ws will be more than happy with their win away at Sale, historically a place where they find it extremely difficult to collect points and they now entertain The Pests at The Holm next week.
