Ten Try Triumph sets up Cam for Twickenham

Following two below par performances the question for the Watchetts faithful was could their black and ambers find their mojo again or would the weight of May 6th yet again prove to be to0 great.
In the event the home side, despite a few, understandable hiccups, delivered in spades, much to the delight of the supporters by recording a 10 try to 1 victory and with a final points tally in the League of 993.
So the bright and warm Saturday morning morphed into a cooler and somewhat damp afternoon as Cam started proceedings, kicking off from the clubhouse end and it was interesting that from the start that the Cam pack had the measure of their opposition by driving them back at pace, a scenario which was continued for most scrums during the 80 mins and without the skills of the visitors #8 would have created much more mayhem for G&F.
The first 15 mins saw Cam trying to play their open game but hesitancy and inaccuracy allowed the visitors to defend quite successfully but on 15 mins the pressure began to tell on G&F when Hasty, Mac and the Fijian Flyer took play deep into the red zone and veteran TommyA was almost through a gap but was able to pop a pass to Hoff who charged over for the first score, coverted by TommyD.
The next score came following a great break out from the Cam 22 and we saw Oyoni and then JoshL take the ball to the visitors line and when the winger was tackled short he was able to get the ball to Mac who had covered the length of the field to support his backs.
It was now all Cam and on 35 mins the black and ambers went further ahead when Josh Wright, who started at centre but was called in to play at the base of the scrum when HT went off with a knock to his shoulder, darted over following a 5m scrum.
The next 15 mins saw several players go close, particularly when young Nick forced his way over from 20m only to be denied however in injury time the home side claimed the try bonus when a quick tap penaty was moved wide and we saw Hoff involved twice as he eventually found a way to put the young Fijian over in the corner and a magnificent kick from the touchline by TommyD moved the score to 26-0 at halftime.
The second half got off to a cracking start as within the first few mins a Cam lineout 25m from the G+&F line saw the black and ambers drive forward and when held up close to the line the ball was quickly moved to Hasty who dotted down in the corner, However again TommyD nailed this most difficult kick and stretch the lead to 33-0 with just 44 mins played.
Then from the restart we saw Mac carve through the visitors defence and when Hughsey got hold of the ball he charged through to touch down for an unconverted try and things got worse for the visitors as from their restart we saw TommyA slice his way through to the visitors 10m and as he got tired!! his neat chip was collected by HT (with his good arm) to touch down wide out.
By this time the efforts by the visitors to quell this never ending black andd amber surge and on 55 mins we saw again another exquisite piece of skill which set skipper Ash off on a searing run which TommyD converted to make the score 50-0
Again the restart was handled well by Cam and a great bullocking run by The Warrior quickly set things up again and when the ball was moved wide TommyA crossed for another converted try.
We then saw the visitors eventually cross for a converted try when the Cam guard at the ruck bought a most outrageous dummy but Cam replied almost immediately with another try by stand in #9 Josh making the final score 64-7.
This was an excellent performance by the team who must be counting down to their day at HQ and there were 18 very relieved players who left the field without any serious injury worries.
Next week there is a Surrey Cup fixture against Chobham at home while the 2s go to Esher for League Playoff finals day and then its Twickenham.

So with Paddy taking on the role of ticket Sales I believe that he is already close to his initial dream of getting more than 1000 Camberley supporters to Twickenham on the 6th May so if you have not organised your ticket PLEASE do it now – the boys have worked so hard for the club over the last 3 seasons and need your support in their final against Droitwich in what must be a once in a lifetime experience.
Details of how to get tickets are on the website but if you need any help please contact Paddy on steve.omeara@swanbay.tv

And Finally – well the C&Ws, who like Cam today and at Twickenham, also played in their pink European strip, in the end comfortably saw off the Budgies last night at Castle Grim to reach the final of the Bic Biro. However even better news today as it seems that, with Cardiff beating Pau, they have already booked their Champions Cup spot for next season which makes next weeks encounter with that lot from The Wreck down the A46 even more tasty – with the game sold out for several weeks the Shed will be Bouncing.
