FESTIVE CHEER AS CAM ROMP HOME

Top of the table Camberley hosted third placed Twickenham for the last match in the first half of the league programme. Sublime conditions certain to create a fluent match for over 100 enjoying the festive luncheon to savour.
The onlookers needed to hurry out as Camberley started the match in frantic attacking moves. They secured a scrum from a knock on straight from the kick off so were able to pin Twickenham back from the start. Two great moves saw the second move way out right and flanker Alex Hughes to score a fine try after 5 minutes. A good conversion from Tom Dunn and Cam were under way.
But in 8 minutes the visitors were also on the scoreboard. A penalty wide out left was well struck so a 7 -3 score. But a minute later Cam were away again with a terrific move starting in midfield led to skipper Ash Wright scoring under the posts with TD duly converting.
No let up as more fine moves across the field ending wide out right as winger Oyoni was over in the corner. No conversion but the score 19 3 in only 12 minutes. The pace shown by Cam surely could not continue unabated and so we saw Twickenham start to fight back with some sound moves. They scored a well worked try by the posts duly converted so 19 -10 after a quarter of an hour.
A scoring drought for 20 minutes as both sides fought well with Cam just having the edge and territory. The drought ended with ten minutes to half time as Cam embarked on a strong move by the forwards with fine advances by the back row. They were rewarded by a penalty in front of the posts TD doing the honours . But the visitors were back on the attack immediately with a promising move thwarted by a knock on. Undaunted fine forward play deep in the Cam defence led to the well worked score converted to give an interval score of 22 -17 and Twickenham well into the match after overcoming well the fine start by the hosts.
The visitors started well after the interval a promising move then scrum on the Cam 22 ending in a Cam penalty. Cam brought the play back to the visitors half and were rewarded after 5 minutes for good efforts by a 30 metres penalty well put over by TD. But 3 minutes later and a penalty to Twickenham in front of the posts saw a 25 – 20 score and all to play for with half an hour remaining.
The fine conditions and undoubted strength and fitness of the Cam side then started to pay real dividends as they mounted the pressure after the exchange of these penalties. It took just 5 minutes for some well worked moves being rewarded as winger Josh Lewanituva was over out on the left his score nicely converted by Tom Dunn. So at 32 – 20 the visitors needed two scores.
But this was soon removed as possible by a brilliant try by Cam after 25 minutes. A fluent move up field out left then a treat of a flicked pass inside then racing over by the posts went full back Henry Tagg. No problem for TD to add the points so 39 – 20. To their credit Twickenham kept moving the ball with useful possession until Cam produced another fine handling set of moves. Over went Oyoni and withy the conversion by TD the score 46 – 20 and 6 minutes remaining.
Clearly determined to see the fifty points up it took just two more minutes for Cam to score again. The ball was loose out left at the Cam 22 as Oyoni gathered and ran the full length of the field helped by a fortunate bounce as he rounded a defender with a neat chip and scored a fine closing try in the corner. Not converted so the superb running match ended at 51 – 20.
A fine match of seven tries for Cam in defeating a good opponent and remaining top of the table. The 50 points in the table and the 504 points scored in these eleven matches reflects the attacking flair and ability shown by the side. They visit locals Farnham next Saturday before the festive break.

And Finally yet another win for the C&Ws this time in the Bic Biro Euro event with a tough game against Zebre who they will entertain at Castle Grim next Saturday. So with the boys now sitting 2nd in the Prem and looking good in their European group everything is definitely Cherry and White.
