A much changed Camberley side were put to the sword by an excellent Exiles team

So with the return to League games at Watchetts the black and ambers were clearly looking forward to bouncing back after their loss away at Cornish however a much changed side was completely outplayed by visitors London Exiles and in a very poor display shipped 5 tries into the bargain.
Cam found themselves on the back foot for most of the 80 mins and were behind in just 3 when, having made good progress following the kick off, they turned the ball over and within a couple of phases the visiting 10 popped over a simple dropped goal.
From the restart Hughsey, following up hard, claimed Tommy Ds kick and play soon moved to within 5m of the visitors line but a poor scrum followed by the first of many lost lineouts saw play move quickly back into the Cam half and despite a great tackle by full back Josh Wright the visitors recycled well and crossed wide out for a converted try with only 9 mins played.
Again the restart was claimed by Cam but with their scrum creaking and the lineout clearly not functioning the black and ambers spent most of their time defending the aggressive running visitors and even when they did manage to claim possession inevitably the ball seemed to be lost by atrocious passing or simply losing the ball in contact.
So with all of those aspects of the game not working it was a tad surprising that it took the visitors 25 mins to add to their score with another converted try following some loose tackling in midfield.
For the third restart in a row Hughsey claimed the kick but the ball was, again, quickly turned over and play moved deep into the Cam 22 where the visitors drove over. Again, as in the game against Cornish, the ref did not award a try immediately and did so only when the maul had become disentangled, a technique which certainly confuses this scribe - either you see the ball as it is grounded or ???
So the half closed with the score 0-22.
The second half produced very little to raise the hopes of the Cam supporters although after the visitors had added a penalty to their score there was one moment of magic when from a scrum on Exiles 10m Mac picked up at the base and fed skipper Roger Wood who had a little dart before the ball was passed through many hands including Oyoni, Hoff, Sam and Benny before Ash crossed for an excellent score on 55 mins.
Unfortunately that was just about as good as it got for the loyal home supporters as Exiles added another unconverted try and despite a number of excellent individual surges by Josh, Oyoni, Dan and Musa the home team were unable to trouble the scorer giving a final score of 5-37.
Without doubt this was the most lack lustre performance we have witnessed since Risey took the helm at the beginning of the 14/15 season and one hopes that, using the very annoying but apparently totally acceptable modern day parlance when things go wrong 'lessons will been learned' the squad will react positively to this poor display.
Skipper Woody didn't stop encouraging his side for the entire 80 mins but unfortunately far too few of the side seemed able to rally to his call - something which will definitely need to be rectified if the team are to secure a decent final position come April.
It was not good to see TommyD carried off in the first half with a badly damaged ankle and we hope that it turns out to be not as serious as it first looked.
Without a doubt next weeks training with Risey Alun and JJ will be 'full on' and everyone will be expecting a different attitude on the park next week at Twickenham (ko 2.30).
As if the 1s result was not bad enough, the 2s, who until today were leading the Surrey Championship, went down 51-6 at Ironsides - apparently they suffered a number of injuries and at one stage were down to 11 men.
And Finally for you C&W supporters it was another good day in the Challenge Cup with a bonus point win at Castle Grim - everyone is hoping that their current injury list of 13 senior players before the game with the Saints this coming weekend.
