9 try Camberley continue their promising start - winning 57-17 at home v Old Tiffinians

On a beautiful autumnal afternoon Cam welcomed Old Tiffinians to Watchetts for their second League game of the season.
However the Cam supporters, having enjoyed a very convivial Presidents Lunch, were treated to a rather frustrating first quarter with a lack of cohesion and discipline from the black and ambers and found themselves 3 points down following an OTs penalty after just 2 mins.
Following this period of fairly loose play which had coaches Risey and Oddjob in pieces, Cam took the lead when they took a quick penalty on half way and winger Phil Cresswell beat a number of OT defenders to touch down for a try which Laz converted with 25 mins gone.
Then from the restart we saw something of the Cam system when they made the ball do the work and following good hands Tommy A made a half break before feeding Joe Wood who dotted down for an unconverted try.
For the remainder of the half Cam continued to dominate but they just made too many silly errors but just before the break a good scrum against the head saw Alex Hughes feed Joe Wood and then, via Jono, the ball reached replacement Mac who stormed over to make the halftime score 17-3.
The second half started with the black and ambers winning another scrum against the head and with Jono supporting Alex Hughes the #8 raced over for a try converted by Will O'Meara with just 2 mins gone.
The game again became a little scrappy with Cam needing to defend deep in their half for a period but the siege was broken when a great defensive tackle by Joe Wood created a turnover and from the ensuing lineout Alex Hughes crossed for his second try again with Will O'Meara adding the extras.
Cam then turned the screw further when, from the restart, Mac, now playing #8, recovered some poor ball and following a excellent run by debutant Dan Bright, Jono was on hand to take the scoring pass and again with Will adding the extras the lead was now 38-3 after 65 mins.
The game then became very fragmented for a period with many of the home side playing as if the job was already done and during this period Cam conceded their first league tries of the season as OTs pulled the score back to 38-17.
Cam were eventually shocked into action by these scores and on 75 mins a turnover on half way saw flyer Phil Cresswell scorch over for his second of the afternoon.
The pain was only starting for the visitors as Cam ran in 2 more tries in the closing minutes, through Alex Hughes and lock Sam Voight both converted by Will as OTs visibly tired giving a final score of 57-17.
Overall a good result for the black and ambers although they lacked precision and discipline for too long particularly in the first quarter however this group of very skilful and confident players are developing week on week.
I suspect that Risey and Oddjob will be concentrating on the 2 tries which were conceded rather than the 9 tries scored during training this coming week.
Again a good day at the office with some outstanding rugby but they will all know that to continue this excellent start to the season they will need to tighten things up even more.
Next week the 1s travel to Midwives for what another tough game.
The 2s travelled to Vandals and recorded their first League win of the season with a 39-7 victory
The picture is by Chris Whiteoak and shows Chris Parnaby, Greg Wilmington and Jono attacking the OTs line.
