Cam claim 6 tries to stay in the fight

The drive to Horsham is never straightforward but with the added challenges of several flooded roads the concept of a 3G pitch on the top of a hill always seemed to be extremely sensible except when there is a cold breeze blowing down the field which is exactly the situation facing Cambo on Saturday.
So for the hosts sitting in the relegation positions a win was vital for their chance to play another game in this league while the black and ambers have a very simple goal, 5 points from each of their remaining fixtures.
In the event, with relegation rivals Bournemouth winning well 2 points for the hosts was a disappointment while the visitors from Watchetts, despite achieving their objective will be a tad disappointed with some aspects of their performance.
With the hosts benefiting from the breeze for the first 40 we saw both sides trying to open up play but far to many 'dull' mistakes reduced the fluency of proceedings and with the Cam scrum again lacking its usual dominance the first score of the game didn't come until almost the end of the first quarter when good hands and aggressive running by Fireman George took play deep into the red zone and a chip over the defensive line was collected at the second attempt to see Smarty cross for the opening score.
Cam soon moved back into the Horsham half from the restart and great hands saw Bazza set the Fireman off again and this time he was just too good for the defence and touched down in the corner and a fabulous conversion from touch by Smarty saw the score move to 0-12 after 22 mins

To their credit the home side were scrapping for everything and poor defence in the midfield saw them onto the scoreboard after 30 mins and the score remained 7-12 at the break.
The second half saw Cam on the offensive immediately and with less than 2 mins played scrum half Max spotted a gap at the breakdown on halfway and his speed and nifty footwork saw him outpace the home defence to dot down under the posts in what is becoming his trademark, extending the lead to 19-7.
Unfortunately for the good numbers of Cam supporters, The Scruffs were on their 'overseas' tour!!, their side then had a very poor 20 mins which resulted in Horsham adding 2 converted tries to their total and moving into a 2 point lead.
At this time the black and ambers went up a gear and after several pens they managed a tremendous lineout drive from 15m with Big Dom claiming the score on 67 mins and also the tbp.
And the story was repeated straight from the restart when firstly Cam won a pen for Dom being taken out in the air and some chat from the home side cost them a further 10m and with Smarty adding salt to the wound by sticking the pen on halfway into touch on the Horsham 5m line there was an inevitability about the next stages when several darts for the line eventually saw Cam replacement, The Ozzie Mole, burrow his way over to claim the score after a very good series of plays the score had moved to 21-31 on 70 mins.
Again to their credit, and aided by some more sloppy defence, Horsham claimed another converted try giving them a tbp on 75 mins.
As is often the case the lion was stirred again and from the restart Cam moved into the Horsham 22 and several drives saw the direction of play switched cleverly and it was great to see tighthead Bazza charge over from 20m making the score 28 – 38 playing time added on.
However Cam clearly again switched off as they were penalised almost immediately and Horsham accepted the gift of 3 points and with it a lbp with the final kick of the day.

So despite them achieving their target of 5 points, this was a pretty lack lustre performance by the black and ambers with only a few glimpses of their quality, mixed in with lots of more sloppy play particularly in the tackle department, however clearly this stop, start series of fixtures together with the saturated training pitches, is not helping their cause and with another blank Saturday next week the coaches will be working hard to ensure that the side is fully prepared for the visit of the high flying Welsh on the 16th – ko 15.00

And finally, well the Prem seems to be having even more 'off' Saturdays than we are at the moment which means that the C&Ws are not back in action until 15th when they host The Tigers in the Prem Challenge Cup final and this is then followed by the knock out stages of the Bic Biro Trophy.
