Another solid 8 try performance by the Black and Ambers

This was potentially another banana skin game for Cam as the Hammers had proved to be very difficult opponents in London 1 recently. In the event, on a very damp but playable Watchetts, the black and ambers had destroyed the visitors pack at the outset and scored 5 tries by half time and despite a slight resurgence by the visitors in which they managed to cross for 2 tries the Cam's 3 second half scores ensured that there was really no comeback.
With Cam kicking off towards the clubhouse we saw the first scrum of the afternoon retreat towards the clubhouse at a rate of knots and nothing really changed for the rest of the game.
Cam found quickly themselves in the red zone but a couple of sloppy pens later the visitors were deep in the black and ambers 22 but dominance at scrum time won several pens which moved play back down towards the clubhouse.
The first score was not long coming after these initial phases and on 13 mins we saw Macca break from a lineout on the visitors 10m and inside to Connor and then for the last couple of metres to BLS to dot down under the posts.
The game remained quite fragmented for the next 10 mins or so with Cam much too loose and playing as if the game was already theirs but on 25 mins we saw Macca almost over following a good lineout on the visitors 22 and when he was stopped just short the ball was recycled quickly and it was the #8 again throwing a monster pass to Bazza, and no one was going to stop the physical tighthead and for the skipper for the day to cross in the corner.
At this stage it still seemed that Cam were rushing things and looking for the magic pass but we did see some great rugby when , again using their dominance at scrumtime first Macca made a great break which was well supported by Connor, Vic and finally our favourite fiery fireman crossed in the corner and so with almost 30 mins on the clock the score had moved to 19-0 following a magnificent kick from the touchline by Razor.
Then we had a moment of magic as, from the restart and deep in their own 22 Cam started to throw the ball out wide – a common tendency which often leaves coaches and supporters somewhat nervous but on this occasion we all witnessed something really special as we saw Brizzle catch the ball about 10m from his own line and with some magic hands the centre then proceeded to power his way through the entire opposition until he reached the red zone and again the ever present BLS was on hand to dot down for an outstanding score and with Razor again adding the extras the score moved to 26-0 with just about 30 on the clock.
To their credit Cam continued to pressure thee visitors and several scrum pens eventually saw Macca take a quick tap and go from 5 m for an unconverted try on the stroke of half time.
The second half started with Cam quickly moving into the redzone again and after a couple of 5m scrums resulting in a Hammers a yellow card we saw a great driving scrum with young Max sneaking infront of Macca to claim the score after just a couple of mins.
As with many Cam games, sort of understandably, the foot comes off the gas and the visitors efforts were rewarded on 60 mins with a converted try but Cam were soon on the scoreboard as the Birthday Boy again picked up from a scrum close to the line and a neat dummy saw him cross wide out.
Again to their credit the visitors added a try to their tally but, as previously, the black and ambers had the last say when, following yet another powerful drive by Macca from a scrum on the Cam 10m, the ball found its way across the field to Big Dom who's crazy pass behind his back saw Bowers cross for the final score of the day.

Yet another really solid performance by the black and ambers in which they again managed, at times to successfully merge their power up front with their quality backs and with a break next weekend there will undoubtedly be much talk between coaches and players in preparation for the visit to ODP at the beginning of December.

Some more good news – young Olly Jackson, who with his dad Jim are ever presents every Saturday helping with kit, water etc , has been accepted into what was formerly the London Irish Academy at U14 level so all that hard work is starting to pay off Olly.
The pic, by Dinger, shows Max scoring his second try of the afternoon
