Despite Defeat Cam enjoy their Day at Dorking

So for their final warm up game before the start of their League programme Risey had set up a game against Dorking, who last season were playing 2 levels higher than the black and ambers.
The game started with Cam playing up the slope and into a breeze and despite a couple of encouraging breaks it was the home side who settled to the task better with Cam in all sorts of trouble at scrum time and also often playing second fiddle at the breakdown and they soon found themselves 21-0 down at the break.
However the pearls of wisdom spoken by Risey senior and Junior plus 1st team coach Ash had an immediate effect in the second half as the scrum stabilised and we started to match the home side at the breakdown. So playing down the slope Cam were soon in the red zone and a great scrum saw the ball speed out to JamieT whose pace and physicality was just too much for Dorking and this try was followed by a touch down for HP who was on hand to take the pass following another JamieT break. In fact the black and ambers were cruelly denied a third try when a great lineout drive was adjudged to have been held up.
Dorking then added to their score but The Warrior grabbed 2 short range scores, the second following an impressive break by new centre Hoppy, leaving the final score 5 tries to 4 in favour of Dorking - 33-22 in real money.
So a good runout for both sides with Cam discovering the pace and physicality they will need to succeed at this level and to their credit it was great to see them adjusting to these new requirements after a slow first quarter and managing to even dominate considerable periods of the second half.
With Risey still short of several players this weekend - apparently its the Festival season!! - Ash and he clearly have lots of work ons following the game and I suspect some selection challenges for the first league game next Saturday at Brighton.
And Finally - so following all of the furore in the media last week regarding the C&Ws new superstar, Cips let his class do the talking on Thursday when he put the NG Dragons to the sword in an excellent display in their final warm up game before the visit of The Sinners to Castle Grim next Saturday.
