Much Changed Camberley unable to hold Chobham

This semi final of the Surrey Trophy was always going to be a challenge for Cam with the 2s playing Ironsides in the Surrey Championship Final and the 1s due to play the game of their life at Twickenham on May 6th. So a very unfamiliar black and ambers side faced a Chobham side who were clearly focussed on the final on May 7th and despite a valiant effort by Risey's mixed bag the visitors eventually ran out comfortable winners.
The game got off to a bang when Chobham scored a soft try after just 1 minute and extended their lead with a break from their 22 on 5 mins making the score 12-0.
They extended their lead with a very lucky try when a defensive kick by Cam was fortuitously returned by the Chobham winger who then followed up to claim the try on 16 mins and on the half hour they added another unconverted try to stretch their lead to 22 points.
Then on the point of half time we saw some points for all of the black and ambers efforts when prop Dan Neal was driven over for a well deserved try.
The second half started well for Cam with a break from Rory taking play into the visitors 22 where they were able to apply pressure for a series of phases but their lack of cohesion meant that on in the next quarter the far more experienced Chobham added 3 more tries and a lucky interception on the stroke of full time made the final score 5-44.
Overall a very creditable performance by this makeshift team who stuck at it for the full 80 mins and whose efforts were not fully reflected in the final score.
So now this week we have the 1s preparing for their appearance at Twickenham on May 6th ko 3.00 while the 2s will be playing in the Plate final at Esher on May 7th ko 2.30.
And Finally - well the Premiership draws to a close with the C&Ws missing the opportunity to push for a playoff spot as they were well beaten by an excellent B***f side so will Ackerman follow Risey's lead and rest his players before the Bic Biro final in Bibao against Cardiff Blues in a couple of weeks.
