4 Try Laz runs riot as Cam win their first round encounter with Bromley

Good and dry conditions as Camberley faced Kent side Bromley from London 2 South East in the first round of the RFU Intermediate Cup on Saturday.
Camberley were soon in their stride gaining early territory but after a penalty then line out a knock on near the opponents line thwarted a score . Then after 9 minutes a good break from the back row by Mac Duabie set up the move to see Tom Dunn over for the try in the left corner although unconverted setting the score under way.
The lead was short lived as two minutes later Bromley breached the defence to level the scores with a workmanlike score out left . Unconverted the scores at 11 minutes 5 – 5. The try boosted the visitors who set up two good moves the second halted by a Camberley penalty. It led to a fine handling move in the backs with centre Liam Lazarus in for a good try on the right in 18 minutes. The try was neatly converted by Tom Dunn leaving Cam seven points clear.
Buoyed by the lead Cam set up two good moves one ending in a knock on and the other a penalty. But the pressure was on and Camberley were rewarded after 35 minutes by a second try for Liam Lazarus as the move set him up to score under the posts the try converted by Tom Dunn. But visitors Bromley soon fought back and with the interval beckoning scored a fine try after retaining the ball from a scrummage in a good attacking position the score converted to see a 19 – 12 scoreline.
Camberley ended the half in control with a final attack out right sending winger Henry Tagg over in the corner the score well converted by Tom Dunn. The interval scoreline was a comfortable 26 – 12 lead but still plenty to play for.
The early second half stages were even with each side showing attacking intent but the match tipped in favour of Cam afyter 16 minutes. They broke away after a scrum and lock Ben Harrison was in for the try converted by Tom Dunn. At 33 – 12 the 21 point lead then encouraged Cam to some good moves one being stopped just short of the line but the control at this crucial stage told as in 24 minutes Liam Lazarus was in for his third try with substitute Kiwi Hoggard converting to see the score at 38 – 12.
But brave Bromley soon fought back and their good work in mid field saw progress to a 29th minute try well out right unconverted to keep the scoreline at the 21point deficit. Eight minutes left and Cam now pressurising and a well worked move ending with the ball bundled into touch near the visitors line. Then soon after Liam Lazarus gained the ball in mid field and burst through for a fine try and his fourth of the match. With Kiwi Hoggard duly converting the scoreline an impressive 45 – 17. Four minutes left and Bromley gamely attacked but inside the Cam 22 their pass was intercepted to see substitute Anthony Benham clear to run the length of the field for the final try. The simple conversion of Benny’s score was the thirds for Kiwi.
So a final scoreline of 52 – 17 to Camberley who played a more cohesive match yet against sound opponents. Eight tries with six converted compared to the visitors three with one converted tells the story of a workmanlike win and a good team effort all round.
