U8s Take on Wimbledon Minis Festival

U8s Take on Wimbledon Minis Festival

Matthew O'Reilly

From foggy starts to sunny finishes – another fantastic festival for the Camberley U8s!

This weekend, 4 October, Camberley U8s headed to the Wimbledon Minis Festival for the second of three festivals in three weeks.

The day started with a chilly drive through thick fog, a few road closures to navigate around Wimbledon, and plenty of anticipation for the rugby ahead. Thankfully, by the end of the day the fog had disappeared and the teams were playing in glorious sunshine!

Camberley once again entered three teams, with the boys and girls taking on some great opposition from across the region, including hosts Wimbledon RFC, Battersea Ironsides RFC, Kings RFC, Esher RFC, Old Ruts RFC, Hammersmith & Fulham RFC and Old Wimbledonian Warriors RFC.

Each team played four games, with the U8s facing some impressively large pitches. While there was plenty of space to attack and move the ball, the extra room also meant that strong defensive lines were essential. The players worked hard, supported each other and continued to put into practice the skills they have been developing at training.

As always, the festival was about much more than just the rugby. There was plenty of fun, plenty of smiles and plenty of food and drink to keep everyone going throughout the morning. The oranges were particularly popular – although a few quickly found a second use as makeshift gum shields!

It was another fantastic festival for the Camberley U8s, with all three teams showing great enthusiasm, teamwork and TREDS spirit from the first whistle to the last.

And there’s no time to put the boots away just yet. Next weekend sees the final festival of our three-week run, as we head to Hazlemere RFC for another morning of rugby, fun and hopefully a little less fog!
