Roger Berry, a steadfast pillar of Camberley Rugby Club for nearly five decades, passed away leaving behind an extraordinary legacy of service, friendship and dedication.
Born in Gloucester, Roger's love of rugby began early. Though a knee injury ended his playing days in the late 1960's, his passion for the sport never dimmed. After moving to Camberley in 1971, a chance conversation with friend Bob Hughes led him to the club, where he began coaching the U13's in 1975 - launching a lifetime commitment to supporting players of all ages.
Roger served the club in countless roles: coach, Chairman of Mini and Juniors, member of the Honours Club, touch judge, 1st team manager, webmaster, senior fixtures secretary, player registration lead, match-day official and match reporter. Whenever volunteers were needed, Roger stepped forward. His quiet reliability helped carry the club through the league climbs and painful relegations alike, always upholding the spirit of One Club.
He was proud to serve as Club President from 2005-2008 and witnessed many of Camberley's finest moment, including the unforgettable Twickenham victory on 6 May 2018.
Roger will be remembered for his humour, humility, tireless work ethic and unwavering love for the club he often called his "second home". He is survived by his devoted wife Sue, who supported him throughout his 60 year rugby journey.
Camberley Rugby Club has lost one of it's true stalwarts, but Roger's influence will continue to shape the club for generations. Rest in Peace Roger
