President’s Christmas Wishes 2025

President’s Christmas Wishes 2025

Membership CRFC24 Dec - 16:37

I hope that you all have a wonderful family Christmas and are looking forward to the New Year.

Hi Everybody,

As you have seen, this year has had its ups and downs.

The Juniors, Minis and Academy have been thriving from Kinders through to Senior Academy. Our 2nd XV has included many of our promising Ex-Academy Players with a gradual improvement in results largely due to their undoubted skills. They are at present second in their league.

The Women’s Team has been strengthened through the addition of several new players to the squad and the development of the established Camberley players, and in their new league after promotion last year they are an encouraging fourth.

We have seen a lot of changes to the 1st XV this year with several players moving to clubs higher up the rugby ladder and we wish them well and thank them for their contribution to the high level of rugby we play. With these changes it has not been easy this year to maintain that level of consistency over a period of development and we have to be patient as this is something all sports clubs go through.

Added to this there has been a change of coaching staff and we wish Michael Clarke and his team all the best in the future and welcome the new coaching team beginning in January.

I managed to see the Minis in their Home Festival a few months ago, as they ignored the dreadful weather as all good rugby players do to play some great rugby and the enjoyment shown from players, coaches and parents was rewarded as the sun came out and shone on all who were there eventually. This Festival was a major one in the history of Camberley RFC being the Fiftieth Anniversary of the founding of the Minis and Juniors at Camberley. That Sunday coincided with the England Women’s Team winning the World Cup with our Alex Matthews figuring throughout. She has come to the club on several occasions to help with the training of our very promising girl’s teams.

We were one of the first clubs to set up a Mini and Junior Section in England and one of our founding coaches was Roger Berry, who sadly died a few weeks ago. He was actively involved in the club through coaching and then reporting on 1st team matches and serving as President. Earlier on, in the summer we also mourned the death of Wayne “Rocky” Mullan, a regular member of our Juniors, Academy and then on to 1st XV. He then moved to Farnham, where he continued playing and coaching his two daughters. We offer our condolences to their families. All of their friends from both clubs have felt the loss.

Talking about those who spend many hours making sure that the club not only exists but goes from strength to strength, I have to praise everyone involved in the club, in whatever capacity, for the amazing job you are all doing. Let’s hope that 2026 will mean we can continue to meet and enjoy each other’s company. I look forward to that.

I would like to thank all our sponsors for helping us to maintain and improve the club. I would also like to thank the supporters for raising funds for our chosen charities - Besom of Camberley and Wooden Spoon.

I hope that you all have a wonderful family Christmas and are looking forward to the New Year.
