Watchetts was buzzing on Wednesday with the launch of the new girl’s rugby section here at Camberley RFC.

Pulling the event together in less than two weeks the newly formed Womens & Girls section had their work cut out for them. With the help of the Womens team and club members, posters and information were shared though local schools and social media. SHBC and Active Surrey were also involved in spreading the message far and wide.

Players ranging from school year 6 to 10 arrived on the night, some ex-Camberley players returning to continue the sport they love, some brand new players wanting to try something different and a handful of our current rising u13s who played their part in making this happen.

Lead coach Mac sums up the night “I'm extremely proud and excited for the future of Girls Rugby at our club. As a rfu kids first Mentor, it has been my goal for many seasons to get girls rugby back to the club. Anyone walking round on a Sunday morning will see so many girls enjoying rugby in their age grade squads, as a mentor you say right! these girls need to have a pathway going forward to keep them playing the game they love.

Re-launching the girls on the 16th June was supported by so many within the club and even a little shout out from Womens rugby legend Rocky Clark herself!

I would like to thank all the girls for coming and having fun, their parents for bringing them down to join us, our coaches, and guest coach Wilko.
You all made the evening exciting, fun, and the laughter and smiles said it all. We are all looking forward to training next Wednesday”

Now we have started we will keep going, providing free training sessions every Wednesday 6-7pm at the club until the end of the school year (Wed 21st July)

There is also another Inner Warrior on Wednesday 7th July so please do keep spreading the word and sharing social media posts from the club accounts and the new CamberleyGirlsRugby Facebook page

Girls section lead Tara Barnett said ‘The evening was exactly what we set out to do. It is really exciting to be part of something new”

Camberley Girls train every Wednesday 6-7pm, Sch yr 6-10
NEW PLAYERS ARE WELCOME AT EVERY TRAINING SESSION. Players can register their interest email: Girlsrugby@camberleyrugbyclub.co.uk or just turn up on the night
