Camberley U8s Season Kicks-Off

Camberley U8s Season Kicks-Off

Matthew O'Reilly

Sunshine, smiles and plenty of rugby as the U8s return for an exciting new season.

Sunday marked the first U8s training session of the new season, and what a fantastic start it was!

On a beautiful sunny morning, 28 boys and girls returned to training, bringing plenty of enthusiasm, smiles, and energy after the summer break. It was great to see so many familiar faces back at the club, all excited and ready for the challenges and fun that lie ahead this season.

The players quickly got back into the swing of things, enjoying a variety of fun rugby activities while reconnecting with teammates and coaches. The positive atmosphere around the club showed just how much everyone had been looking forward to getting started again.

Looking Ahead to the New Season
This season will see a number of exciting developments as the squad continues its rugby journey.

  • Tag rugby remains the primary format, allowing players to continue developing their handling, passing, running, and game awareness skills.
  • Players will experience larger pitches, providing more space to play and encouraging wider attacking rugby.
  • We will introduce the six-tag turnover rule, helping players develop a better understanding of possession, decision-making, and game management.
  • Following Christmas, the coaching team will begin to introduce basic tackling drills in a controlled and safe environment, helping prepare players for the future transition to contact rugby.
  • We are also excited to announce plans to field an all-girls Camberley team at selected festivals during the season, providing additional opportunities for our growing number of female players to showcase their skills and enjoy the game.

With such a strong turnout for the first session and plenty to look forward to, the Camberley U8s are set for an exciting and enjoyable season. Well done to all the players for their effort and enthusiasm, and thank you to the parents and coaches who continue to make grassroots rugby such a special experience.

We can't wait to see everyone back next Sunday. Go Camberley!
