This week, Camberley Rugby Club proudly hosted 79 Rainbows, Brownies and Guides from local Surrey Heath Units for an exciting evening of rugby fun and skill-building as they worked toward earning their Love Rugby Badge.
The girls were greeted by our fantastic Girls’ Section coaching team, led by the inspirational Head Coach Tara. The sessions began with an invigorating warm-up led by Coach Jay, which could have challenged even seasoned players!
After warming up, the girls rotated through a series of skill zones, designed to introduce key aspects of the game in a safe and enjoyable way. They practiced passing, catching, finding space, and for those feeling adventurous, there was a tackle technique station—undoubtedly the most popular spot of the evening! The event concluded with a lively game of Evade the 8, leaving everyone smiling and full of energy.
These sessions are all about opening the world of rugby to young girls, removing the fear factor, and most importantly, ensuring they have fun in an all-female environment. Rugby isn’t just about tackling and scoring tries—it’s about building confidence, creating connections, and fostering a sense of belonging.
A huge thank you to Head Coach Tara, and all the other coaches and the volunteers who made this event possible. We can’t wait to welcome these girls back to the pitch soon!
