With Friday’s spectacle and opening ceremony of RWC2015 still ringing in the ears, this Sunday, Camberley Academy hosted Trojans RFC at Watchetts Rec.
A somewhat busy Camberley greeted both teams on a perfect day for rugby in the glorious September sun and a good crowd had gathered to watch the proceedings, a training match/friendly comprising of three, twenty minute rubbers.
Camberley made a bright start and from an early scrum wing Adam Musa made a great break down the left side and supported by Will Hazelden, Cambo opened their account as a great off load pass from Adam put Will in to score the first try, unconverted, Camberley took the lead 5 – 0.
As the match settled, ill discipline from Camberley cost them both possession and territory and against a hard playing Trojans side this was not what was required.
The visitors, who fought hard at the break down, kept the pressure on Camberley with some powerful running backs and only a concerted effort in defensive kept the guests from scoring.
Camberley scored their second try when a pressured Trojan clearance kick went astray, Brandon made good yards down the right and flanker Mua touched down, again unconverted, Camberley were now 10 – 0 up, the final score at the end of the first twenty.
Substitutions made, the second twenty got underway and Camberley’s discipline was still an issue.
However, trys scored by Matt Larcombe and Adam Musa through turnovers from pressure at the breakdown saw Camberley take the lead in the second session, both converted 14 – 0.
Trojans continued to compete well and from a line out scored their first try and with the conversion, the second session concluded 14 – 7 to Camberley.
With the games and sessions being played in good spirits Camberley loaned Trojans two players for the final third.
Another Camberley penalty saw Trojans kick to touch and the following line out and driving maul resulted in a good try being scored and Trojans went 5 – 0 up.
Camberley kept the ball and worked well through the phases and Brandon scored their fifth try, Will H converted, the score now 7 – 5.
Camberley players out on loan did exceptionally well for Trojans and Rhys Jones scored against his own club to give the visitors the last third 7 – 10.
The final score, 31 -17 in Camberley’s favour.
Some great performances from all the Camberley players today and some amazing tackles made, especially from Joe Patrick.
Man of the Match went to Shawa Rai, who played unbelievably well, for both teams!
