On the 23rd of January, Camberley U15s took on Reading RFC for a local classic amid muddy and windy conditions. Reading were unfortunately missing some players, but some of the Camberley boys showed great rugby values, bearing Reading’s green and white kit to make up missing the numbers.
Camberley were the first on the score sheet with Chester P, scoring the first try of the game of which he then converted, starting the game positively for the boys in black and gold (7 – 0).
After a little bit of back and forth between the teams, Camberley’s Radley H scored the next try after a strong scrum and great carry. Camberley clocking up their second try of the match which unfortunately wasn’t converted (12 – 0).
Not long after Camberley found the tryline again with Chester P, where he converted his own try, giving Camberley a comfortable lead of 19 -0.
Back rower Matthew L, become the first forward to score for Camberley after a strong carry and great leg drive to get him over the line, in a great position for another great conversion (26 – 0).
The second half of the game showed Reading’s desire to play, getting their first try of the game making the score 26 – 5.
Camberley came back, putting the conceded try behind them, to deliver a fast response, with William D-R scoring off the back of a well-orchestrated team try (31 -5).
The next try scorer was Jared R, scatting in from the edge to dot down Camberley’s 6th try of the day which moved Camberley into an almost assured winning position (36 – 5).
The final try scorer of the day was Chester P, who solidified the win with a huge success from the tee, scoring the final conversion leaving the score 43 – 5.
Despite the less than ideal weather conditions Camberley came out victorious, playing well as a team. The forwards showing great physical dominance and backs proving their accuracy and skill, with Chester P scoring a hat trick. A great game of rugby with some good individual moments alongside a good team win.
