So the madness of summer continues as Team Small smashes it at the Turf Games

On Saturday 3rd July ten players competed in the annual turf games competition splitting across two teams of five (bragging rights were very much at stake)

The team were height based and consisted of;
Small - Tom Chennell, Shawa Rai, Callum MacTaggart, Josh Thundercliffe & Greg Franzel
Tall - Sam Voight, Ben Harrison, Ben Lovell-Smith, Ian Vandersluys & Ryan Eastley

On the day the each team had to complete four intense workouts including max distance rowing, 3 rep max front squats, carrying 100kg tyres, excessive amounts of the assault bike and hundreds of burpees

After the first couple of workouts it became clear for both teams that we were in with a great shot of finishing in the top ten. Especially after Shawa easily front squatted 160kg

But we all knew the third workout was the biggest challenge of the day as farm fitness always brings something different. Both teams went at it and completed too many calories on the assault bike to mention -

Along came the last workout and Team Small were sitting pretty in second and needing a course record to take the lead. This was achieved however it was soon broken again in the next heat

At the end of the day both teams did incredibly well with Team Small claiming a podium finish in 2nd and Team Tall coming 12th out of 40 teams. A huge effort from some rugby blokes competing against fitness professionals

The pic shows Team Small on the podium receiving their award for second place From the left we have Tom Chennell, Greg aka Marvin, Shawa our pocket destroyer, Taggs who is still recovering from major knee surgery??? and Thunderman - the good news is that he has decided to return to leafy Camberley following a season on loan in Hull !! - as threatened all sporting their budgies and supported by Duracell boy #2 Owen Chennell.

Alas there is no real rest as preseason is already underway and a number of the team are also gearing up for the 200 mile charity cycle in three week!!!

For those of you who are not aware of this challenge we have a mixed team Tom & Laura, Sam and Poppy, Kirstyn, Greg, Brizzle, planning to cycle 200 miles from Watchetts to Crynant in the Brecon Hills in 2 days and in doing so they are hoping to raise £4K to support 4 great charities, Macmillan, MIND, Wooden Spoon and Motor Neurone.

To help with the fund raising they have planned a Charity Evening at the club on 23rd July, where there will be multiple fund raising events including a hang tough challenge, a raffle with some great prizes and finally the lads are offering to have their bodies waxed (for a suitable donation!!!) in order to be as streamlined as possible for the ride. There will be a happy hour at the club so keep a look out for more details to follow.... (This looks like a night not to be missed) So if you fancy a fun evening please do come down and support the team in their attempt to raise loads of money for four very deserving charities.
