You may already have heard the sad news of the passing of Mike McCarthy at the age of 84. Mike’s Family would like to invite you to a celebration of his life at Camberley Rugby Club on the 15th April 2023.

Mike passed away last July while at his holiday home in Florida but American red tape meant that the family were not able to have a ‘traditional’ funeral, as having been abroad, there were inevitable issues with bringing him home. His heart had finally given up on him at the tender age of 84.

Mike was Chairman at Camberley Rugby Club for several years in the 90’s and was a driving force in making things happen at the Club, including giving financial support and his own time to help implement change. He was also a member of The White Hart Marauders, CADS club, and the SCRUFFS for whom he was a founding Member, and Chairman. Again giving up his time to help SCRUFFS raise money for both the Club and local charities. I will never forget Mike turning up at the club with around forty pink and black umbrellas, with the SCRUFFS logo on them. Our Pink V-neck sweaters, pink cravats and pink and new black fedoras were fully complimented by the umbrellas.

I'm sure you will all join me in wishing Mike’s family, Roma, Danny, Kath and his grandchildren our best wishes at this difficult time. However all of us know that if he is looking down on us he would just be saying “for god’s sake just get on with it, and make sure you’ve got some music in the back ground. I Did It My Way will do nicely!”.
