60 SECONDS WITH MIKE FRANZKOWIAK

Comms Camberley Rugby28 Sep 2023 - 15:20

Hear from our current President!

What does being President mean?

It was a great honour to be asked to be President of this great Rugby Club, so it means a great deal personally.

Why did you choose to get involved?

I was asked to get involved with the coaching of the Minis as they were then (1985) as my son had just turned 6, and I said yes! I have always thought that we should give back to clubs that we belong to what we get out of them, and so it was with Camberley RFC. I thoroughly enjoyed my whole experience of coaching at all levels at the Rugby Club, and am now enjoying the experience of being President.

What were your first impressions of the club?

When I first came down to the club in the early 80s I was struck by the friendliness of the members of the club and that they all were so welcoming.

What’s the best aspect of the club?

I think the best aspect is the support given to all sections of the club by the entire membership. We have totally committed members from the Kinders right through to the Over 80s!

If you could change one aspect of the club, what would it be, and why?

Not exactly change but I would love to see the restoration of the thriving and busy clubhouse that should be the hub for all our members, with Social Volunteers (not coaches, they have enough to do) organising gatherings of teams, supporters and helpers on a regular basis and creating a whole club feeling when you walk upstairs.

What’s your best memory at the rugby club?

Maybe that is what I remember most – the answer to previous question. There were moments of great triumphs such as our great win at Twickenham and getting some of our great youth players to be recognised at county and regional level. But the buzz in the clubhouse after a match on a Sunday was brilliant.

Describe the rugby club in three words:

Welcoming, Friendly, Caring
