Kim Johnson2 Jul 2021 - 17:31

It was worth the wait! Our 3 Surrey Award winners finally get to go the 'ball'

Congratulations to three of our members who finally got to receive their Mitsubishi Valued Volunteers Award at the Surrey awards celebration on Thursday, the original date for the awards evening had been July 2020, and due to restrictions had been rearranged a number of time. The annual event the achievements of club volunteers across the County as a way of saying ‘thank you’ for their hard work, dedication and commitment to their club and the sport of rugby

All three have progressed in their rugby pathways this season, these are the original write ups from a year ago when they first received there nominations and an update of where they are now.

Jack Johnson - Academy Player
Jack has long been an active member of CRFC first stepping onto the field at Watchetts as a kinder. From an early age Jack would support Dad, coach and senior player Nick Johnson, sorting kit, water bottles, setting up the pitch and running touch. All the background stuff that makes the 80 minutes possible. Jacks enthusiasm for all thing’s rugby grew as he did and was often found cleaning out the changing rooms and setting up pitches for senior games on a Saturday.
His dedication was rewarded and Jack has been actively supporting the 1XV for the past 4 years on match days and ensuring that everything is in place for seniors training ahead of his own rugby as an Academy player.
On a Sunday Jack dedicates his morning passing his knowledge and passion onto younger members of the club as part of the minis coaching team. He is currently working with the u8s.
Jack is well respected and appreciate across all sections of the club. This is a very much deserved recognition of all he has and continues to do for the club and the game.

Jack continues to play for the senior Academy
Congratulation Jack from all at CRFC

Liz Frost – Womens XV Senior Coach
Liz brought Womens rugby back to Watchetts. Her drive and passion for all thing’s rugby have been a huge inspiration to everyone involved on and off the pitch.

With a son and two daughters playing at Camberley, Liz felt it was a natural progression for her to dust off the ‘boots and return to the pitch as a coach to support them. It was her enthusiasm that finalised the start of the Womens program at CRFC

While the idea of restarting the women's section from scratch was daunting and with only 3 people at the first session, as the team go into their third season the hard work is paying off with an amazing group and over 40 registered players.

Liz said "I am constantly learning as a coach from within the club and have exceptional support from my mentor at the RFU. My ethos is rugby for all. I will never turn away someone wanting to play rugby, no matter their age, experience or ability, they have a place with the cocktails”

Liz will be taking the role of Womens Head Coach as we step into the new season 21/22
Congratulations and thank you Liz for your dedication from all at CRFC

Kim Johnson – Womens XV Head Coach
Kim was a founder member of the original Camberley Cocktails and has held many volunteer roles within the club over the past few decades.

It was Liz Frost’s enthusiasm that gave Kim the final push to take on the lead role in bringing Womens rugby back to Camberley.

Her commitment, experience and belief has grown the team on the pitch and orchestrated the back office of support it takes to run and build a team.

2019/20 will be a memorable year for Kim as she won both the Surrey Heath Sports Coach of the Year and the Surrey Coach of the Year Award

Kim went onto be a Mitsubishi Volunteer finalist 2020/21, one of 48 volunteers selected from 2,000 nominated club volunteers from across the country. Kim will be taking on a new and exciting role for the coming season 21/22 supporting the growth and development of Womens and girls rugby here at Camberley
Congratulation Kim and team from all at CRFC
