Yes it was only August 5th but Watchetts was back in business with Risey's first 'Festival of Rugby ' of the season where we saw the 1s playing Bracknell 1s (due to Marlow's late withdrawal) and the 2s playing Farnborough 1s and Bracknell 2s.
Frankly it was amazing to see so many players turn out at the beginning of August and in addition to the challenge of playing their first game for 3 months or so they had to contend with the weather which saw them play the first 30 mins or so on in bright sunshine which was then dramatically interrupted by a violent thunderstorm which drove them all from the pitch.
At that stage the 1s were clearly in control of their game and the 2s had just completed their encounter with Farnborough - who's side included former Camberley stalwart Lofty Milne.
So despite the torrential rain everyone had a great day and for Cam it was good preparation for this weekend's away 'jolly' at Camborne where the plan is to meet up with another ex Camberley player Rhodri who is now the coach down there. I understand that the trip also involves some 'team bonding gigs', camping and a trip to watch the Pirates game and presumably lots of alcohol.
Then on the 19th Risey will take a squad to London Cornish and this is followed by the 1s and 2s entertaining Medway on the 26th and Windsor on Sept 2nd before our first League game on the 9th.
