Russ Lifts Another Gold at the World Championships

Russ Kirby, ex first team player now with the Vets wins more medals at the World Championships held in Sweden early in October

On the 6th Oct Russ was in Sundsvall, Sweden, to compete at the IPF World Masters (Veterans) Powerlifting champs (a truly global 5 day event). He competed in the M1 (40-50yrs age) -105kg body weight category and got silver overall, with a gold medal on squat. It was a very close fought contest for podium places that came down to the wire and overall gold up for grabs on the final lifts of 9. Russ with personal bests at this new bodyweight ( I thought he was looking a tad more svelte recently!!!) on squat with 315kg (and a gold for that); bench press of 227.5kg; and a PB deadlift with 292.5 to give a new PB total and commonwealth record of 835kg for silver overall he was pipped to the overall gold by just by 2.5kg over the 3 lifts.

Not sure what else to add except that together with Ben Gotting and Rocky last Friday evening their immense combined strength completely destroyed the opposition
