Camberley C-Siders bow out with a bruiser
The C-Siders battle out the national semi-final against Wimborne and Ellingham & Ringwood.
The C-Siders (Camberley and Cobham U15 Girls cluster squad) went up against Wimborne and Ellingham & Ringwood in the national semi-finals at Andover today. Even with key players absent due to injury and the unfamiliar playing conditions and format, the ladies played with heart in a bruiser of a day with the dust kicked up across the pitch in both matches.
Despite going into the semi-final unbeaten all season, the C-Siders were not able to over-come Wimborne's forward pack, who at times literally picked up the scrum to push the girls off the line. The ladies fought hard but could not answer Wimborne's 3 tries leaving the final score after the full 30 minutes 19-0.
The ladies kicked off their second match 15 minutes later against Ellingham & Ringwood just as the mercury tipped 24°. It was blistering and the injuries kept coming, but our ladies kept their heads high and answered E&R's first try with one of our own. We trailed by just 2 points going into the second half but we could not recover when the opposition scored another. The final score 12-5 to Ellingham & Ringwood.
The C-Siders have come so far this season and done their clubs proud. They finished as the top team in Surrey. They started as strangers and have formed a bond of trust and respect for each other. Next season we might not all be starting on the same side of the pitch, but the Cobham and Camberley ladies have a lot of good rugby left in 'em.
Congratulations to the whole team for getting this far this season and a big thank you to all the parents, coaches and helpers who got the team to where they needed to be. The Camberley U15s will wrap up with a P&P at the end of the month and then we're onto summer fitness!
