Good Competative Rugby in the Sun

Camberley were drawn in a group alongside Heathfield and Waldron RFC, Cranbrook RFC and 150 Club XII.

Match 1 - Heathfield and Waldron RFC. This turned out to be the perennial slow Camberley start, playing the Sussex U12 Festival champions, we dominated possession but could not turn possession into tries. Camberley twice failed to stop the Heathfield #15 which cost us two tries, a frustrating 2-0 loss, as the opposition barely had ball in hand.

Match 2 - 150 Club XII was made up of boys from other teams at the festival, against Camberley this was made up of boys from Chobham, Heathfield and Waldron RFC and Cranbrook RFC. This turned out to be a much tougher game than originally anticipated, with Camberley again dominating possession, but this time we did not gift the opposition any tries and ran out 2-0 victors.

Match 3 - Cranbrook RFC. Another good performance from Camberley with the forwards punch holes in the defensive line and retaining the ball well, whilst the backs moved the ball through the hands nicely. This was a very close game being decided by a much-discussed try by Camberley in the corner from the last play of the game. Result 1-0 to Cambo.

This put us second in our group, behind Cranbrook on try difference.

The second group of matched pitted us against, Blackheath RFC, Heathfield and Waldron RFC (again) and local friendly rivals Chobam RFC.

Match 4 - Blackheath RFC. Another good solid performance by the Camberley boys saw them run out 2-0 victors in this match.

Match 5 - Heathfield and Waldron RFC. Heathfield were rapidly turning into the day's nemesis! In 10 minute games you cannot afford any soft tries conceded – which happened again! However, Camberley again played really well and fought back to a 1-1 well deserved draw.

Match 6 - Chobham RFC. Final game of the day again saw good rugby again being played by Camberley who eventually ran out 4-0 victors in the final match.

This put Camberley top of the second group, 5th Overall. Cranbrook RFC went on to win the competition overall, when you beat the overall winner in a group match, you have to wonder what might have been!

A fantastic day of rugby played in good spirit by the Camberley boys, the way the boys are currently playing rugby will set us for big things in the next couple of years. The boys played as a squad, with no reliance on any one person, the forwards where brilliant again and set up a great platform for the backs to move the ball out wide.

Finally 42 of us descended on the Quins vs Exeter match and saw another great game of rugby.
