November started with a bang for the Under 7’s at their 4th festival so far this season, hosted by nearby Farnborough. The young squad members have settled in really well with the hustle and pace of festivals but it was a new experience for some and we were really pleased at how well the whole team worked together and got stuck in with the day’s fixtures.
With three mixed teams fielded, Camberley was able to have more young future stars on the pitch than the other club, which is demonstrating how well the we’re attracting boys and girls to play.
As each festival progresses its been a joy to watch each and every member of Under 7’s develop – with a recent focus on defence being exhibited in the matches played.
Farnborough, like Camberley, has close links with the nearby military and a 2 minute silence followed a moving reading and the bugle call of the Last Post -it was with great respect that the team, along with everyone else at the festival observed this during a break in play.
Core values are at the centre of the Under 7 squad, with further examples of teamwork being shown when one of the teams needed a player during a couple of games – with great enthusiasm not one but two members of two different teams stepped up and helped their fellow teammates.
During one game, there was a coming together of heads of two teammates and despite the shock (and well developing bruise under an eye), the players shock it off and carried on, showing great teamwork and determination.
One of the final games of the day saw two Cambo teams play each other and whilst the rivalry of the coaches saw some gentle ribbing, the gameplay on the field was exceptional with everyone coming off the pitch with mile-wide smiles before shaking hands and gathering together for their festival medals.
