After a rush around and disorganised start, the two teams entered into the community festival came together and showed how adaptable and capable the boys are. Having been told to show up with tag belts; and everything else will be provided, we were there ready to go on our now habitual 'obtaining balls' to run a quick warm up session....
Although it was a cold day and a slow start, once the sun came out and we started to run around, it was great to see how well the boys all passed the balls, moved around the pitch, supported each other, and organised their defence. Absolutely fantastic.
Then came a team with girls.... for some reason this season we've not had any girls join our squad, (any budding Matthew's sisters out there in year two at school!!) and the boys seemed cautious to go and get the tags. Once they had been stepped a few times and comments exchanged (thanks Aidan!?!) we realised that they were very very good players, and we began to play again.
Every player who travelled up to Twickenham with us, did Camberley RFC proud and played some wonderful rugby. Given the chance to play at The Stoop during halftime for the Quins and Falcons game, we took both teams onto the pitch and got a fantastic opportunity to play in front of a packed stadium. For the Squirrels it was just another game, and they continued to show just how well they can play, regardless of the occasion.
Well done and thank you to everybody involved, not only the boys for making it a really enjoyable day, but also the parents and families who travelled up with us to support not only the Camberley team, but also Harlequins; even if it's not the result hoped for....
