Our First Home Festival is a Great Success

Camberley Under Sevens proved themselves again this weekend, hosting a home festival and fielding four teams to show what Camberley RFC has to offer.

We welcomed Battersea Ironside, Dorking, Effingham & Leatherhead, London Irish, Old Reigatians, and Sutton & Epsom and enjoyed twenty-three teams playing some fantastic games of Rugby.

The Camberley squad really did outstandingly well; continuing on from their festival last week, with lovely passing, support, and getting into space, creating some amazing running onto the ball. This week was a week for intercepts, with numerous times the Camberley boys seeing the game, space, and opportunity to run through and poach a free score; at times leaving the ref's stood wondering whether they had infringed or not.

The quote of the day has to go to Dexter, when asked "why is space important?" he did not drop a beat before responding "So we can go to the moon!!" not quite what I was hoping for, however, loving the imagination.

We had a guest appearance from the first team, with Tag stepping up to ref one of the games during the day. The panic in his eyes when I said he had to ref a game of six year olds will cheer me up on grey Sundays when the weather's maybe turned a bit colder.

A big thankyou to all of the visiting teams, who conducted themselves in the nature of the game and upheld the core values throughout the day, and helped us make another Camberley festival an exciting and fun day for all of the children.
A HUGE thankyou to all of the parents that helped with the running of the day, from parking marshal's to pitch monitors, first aiders, and those helping with all of the time keeping and administration side of the event, without you we couldn't do what we do.

Another really well ran day organised by the Camberley Festival Team, a few months of training to get through and we'll be doing it all again.... We will start asking for those volunteers again really soon.

Back to training again next week, where I look forward to hearing all of the war stories from the kids, and maybe even about the rocket that took Dexter through his space to touch down another of his many scores......
