Ex club captain Tony 'Bones' Harbour grabs a Hat-trick!

Friday night lights is fast becoming a regular fixture for the G&T's at watchetts and with a healthy crowd present, the game was slightly delayed awaiting some late arrivals from Battersea.
With what was one of the strongest squads we've fielded this season....AND with all of the players well over Vets age requirement (we had the hair colour and weight to prove it).
From the off there was clearly only going to be one winner, Cambs dominated everywhere on the park. The pack was particularly strong and with Ben Gotting, Rocky Mullen and Russ Kirby the three powerhouses upfront, Battersea soon started to try and avoid scrummaging wherever possible.

The first try came very quickly in the match with some great forward play to send ex 1st XV coach Ben Glossop over for the try with Andy Dowan slotting the ball home to get the additional 2. The backs weren't going to be left out and when Tony 'Bones' Harbour got the ball on the halfway line (he still maintains it was well over 75 yards), the years went rolling back and proceeded to roll, crash and drag his opponents over the line for the first of his 3 tries of the evening. After oxygen and the defibrillator were admitted, more of the same ensued for the remainder of the first half and another highlight was of Graeme Fleming appearing to get 'white-lineitus' ensued where he made the ground, saw the line and decided to drop the ball! Bonesy grabbed his second try of the evening when a slick switch with Andy Dowan came off the back of a 5m scrum. Andy Down was stacking up the points and scored a great try just before the half time whistle.

Battersea were starting to tire in the second half but with some poor decision making from Camberley, they were able to regroup and score a try under the posts. The second half was going to be all about the pack and more impressively the scrummaging, at one point in the half, the Battersea three quarters were lining up in defence for their attacking scrum, such was the dominance of the Camberley pack. This impressive patch of play saw Mark Baker go over for another cracking try.

One of the biggest cheers of the night was reserved when a high kick went up and Bonesy found himself alone and under the lights....perfect take, broke the gain line and set the boys up for another try. Another bit of indiscipline for Cambs saw Battersea again capitalising and going over under the posts for their second try of the night with their kicker missing the conversion.

One of the worse moment of the night was seeing Toby Saunders receiving a yellow for 'dangerous footwork' now anybody that's known Toby over the years will know, he is a terrible dancer which made it even harder to believe, he has now received the nickname 'Dangerous' and will be available for door work in and around Camberley for the right price, please contact his wife for availability.

The hat trick was rounded of late in the second half for Bonesy when a rocket ball off the base of the scrum direct from Ben Glossop found it's mark and he broke through the defence again with shouts of 'jug avoidance' behind him to slide in and score under the posts. The game was played in great spirit by both sides and I'm sure the boys are looking forward to the return fixture in the new year.

This was by far and away the best performance the G&T's have put in so far this season and it was great to see so many old faces in the squad and in the bar afterwards. The boys face Old Cranleighans away on the 11th November for their next league game with a tricky few fixtures coming up which sees them also facing high flying Guildford Vets, defending their title in the Surrey Vets cup.
