Cam and Egham enjoy fun in the sun

With the 1s on another rest day and the 2s Surrey plate game conceded by Reeds earlier in the week it was down to a mixed club side to bring rugby to Watchetts today with the visit of local neighbours Egham Hollowegians.
In glorious sunshine, so welcome after the rain in the preceding days, we saw a game which, although in the end was comfortably won by Cam, was full of good running rugby from both sides and played in exactly the right spirit by all of those appearing.
Cam took an early lead following an outstanding break by the be-whiskered Kevin Bell and he followed this with another try after an aggressive 50m run later in the opening half.
We also had the sight of TJ managing to lose the ball 5m out after a 20m burst when it seemed to everyone on the touchline that it would have been easier to cross the try line, We also saw Benny in the second half jinking his way through the visitors defence and, finding himself with still 50m to go, he started off like a rocket but quickly looked as if he was running through treacle and was absolutely wasted by the time he touched down under the posts and the slow, slow walk to take up his position as fullback spoke volumes.
Overall the game was played in great spirit and despite the final score many thanks to our visitors who stuck to their task throughout contributing to a good open game and hopefully enjoyed the afternoon as much as the home side.
