2s break even on Dorking Slopes - against a strong Dorking side the 2s earn a well deserved draw

Camberley’s 2nd XV took to the pitch on a cold windy day at Dorking RFC. With all the other pitches unplayable we were forced to play on a pitch that had it sloped anymore we would have been playing vertically.

The side contained 2nd team regulars plus a handful of the returning uni boys to make a strong side for the afternoon. The Squirells won the toss and elected to play down hill. The game started with an upset. Camberley, not quite switched on, let in an easy try in the corner and this unfortunately was the story of the first half. Silly defensive mistakes allowed Dorking to get points on the board with the elements against them. The OLD heads of Andy Wreaks and Anthony Benham soon turned the ship around and managed to get Riseys trusted pattern firing.

The Front Row combined on two occasions with silky hands to send the worlds skinniest prop, Rob Leddy, over the white line. The next score came from a wonderful piece of skill from Wreaksey that I didn’t know he had in his locker. A pass out of the back door to a charging Chris Parnaby who dotted down under the posts.

Defensively, in the second half , Camberley looked a different side. Big hits from Ryan Naylor, Carl Ulander and Ali Bradley early on set the tone. Camberley weathered the storm on coming storm and gave themselves a good base to build upon for the rest of the season.

On a flat, dryer pitch, things could have been so different.
