The 2nd XV secured an important win over their League rivals Weybridge Vandals on Saturday the 21st of March, putting them one step closer to the possibility of a momentous win of Surrey Conference 2. Weybridge are tied with the Squirrels on 11 wins and 4 losses, but Camberley's 42-point score differential puts them in a very strong position going into the final 2 games, both away to strong opposition. The slings and arrows of player availability have tested the club's strength-in-depth, as star performers for the 2nd team have regularly been called up to play for the first team but able replacements, many of them recent Camberley Academy graduates, have stepped up and played some great rugby.
Regardless of the outcome of the League title, it is fair to say that the performances of the Squirrels, home and away, have been a great credit to the club and to the coaching team led by Gareth Rise. The next fixture is away to Law Society 2nd XV on Saturday the 28th of March at 1pm, followed immediately by the first team fixture. It would be great to see some travelling support urging the Squirrels on in this crucial fixture.
