Lack Lustre Cam well beaten by KCSOBs

So in their second catch up game Cam had the luxury of playing on the 1s pitch for the probably the first time this year but faced with a competent and motivated KCS side they were just unable to rise to the challenge and despite a late recovery when the game was beyond them, they finished with a solitary try bonus point when they realistically needed a 5 point haul to force themselves back into contention.

The game got off to a bright start for the black and ambers when with just 2 mins on the clock a smart interception by Dimples saw the young flyhalf put Ash away with the speedster dotting down under the posts and with the provider adding the extras the home supporters were already believing they were in for another mega try fest, but how wrong that thought turned out to be.

The restart was well taken by Hughsey and the penalty awarded for the #8 being taken out in the air saw Cam move into the visitors half. Despite a good catch by Dom the visitors soon turned over the possession and a neat cross field kick was well taken by their winger who dotted down in the corner on just 6 mins.

Again Cam moved into the visitors half when Dyl collected an overthrown lineout and made good ground but again, and not for the last time, possession was turned over and a chip ahead saw the ball bounce favourably and KCS dotted down under the posts for a converted try after just 9 mins.
The restart saw TommyA run the ball back but Cam seemed unable to string any possession together partly as the visitors seemed to ignore the offside line with impunity and when they benefited from a lucky charge down play moved back into the Cam red zone and the visitors soon extended their lead with another try on 20 mins.
Cam did have a period when they managed to maintain possession but then fell further behind when KCS followed a kick ahead and reacted quicker than the black and amber defence and with a neat flick pass they scored their bonus point try with just 30 mins played and on the stroke of halftime they added another converted try leaving the score 7-31 and a mountain to climb for the home side at the break.
The home supporters were clearly in shock as few could remember when their side had conceded 5 tries in the first half of any game although things looked more promising when some great pressure from the restart eventually saw the black and ambers drive forward from a lineout and eventually, when the ball was swung wide, good hands saw young Turton cross in the corner on 44 min.
Cam clearly took heart from this score and mounted some real pressure with Ozzie Greg and The Warrior making big carries into the KCS red zone but, as so often in the game the visitors were allowed to turnover possession and when they eventually cleared their lines Cam made things tougher for themselves by conceding a pen which was converted making the score 12-31 on 58 mins.
We then had Hughsey run a great line only to be hauled down meters from the opposition whitewash but again as so often in the game the ball was turned over and we then had the sight of our veteran #15 conceding a soft pen followed by 10mins to calm down.
Finally, in the dying minutes Cam did manage to up the intensity and we saw replacement prop Thunderman cross under the posts for a try converted by Dimples and with the visitors infringing so regularly that the official finally was forced to take some action it was much too late and in time added on we saw another chip by Dimples collected by The Flying Fijian who crossed for Cam's 4th try which was converted by the young#10 to claim the tbp.

So now Cam sit 5 points from second place and although Havant and Park have still to play each other Cam still face a tough run in with Cornish away next weekend and Chichester visiting Watchetts plus the trip to an improving Beckenham and the final game at home against HAC.

Clearly the fact that yet again the backs line up was seriously changed from last week does not help the coaching team and the lack of training over the last few weeks due to the state of the pitches is another challenge but overall this was a poor showing lacking in leadership, energy and control which must worry Risey and his coaches.

Next week the 1s travel to Cornish in what is always a tough game – of course that's unless the RFU decide to postpone rugby for a few weeks??

The 2s had a good result beating Horsham 31-24 in their catch up league game which fortunately did not need to be played on the 2s pitch which is minus a set of posts courtesy of Storm Dennis.

And Finally – well no Premiership games this weekend and we can only wait to see if the last game has already been played but there will be no lack of Shedweb activity as the fans look for announcements on new signings for next season.
