No Xmas Cheer at Havant as the Black and Ambers freeze in Storm Deirdre

Cam travelled to Havant in the hope that they could get their season back on track following last week's narrow defeat but despite a great new 4G playing surface courtesy of the RFU they eventually lost, a tad controversially it may be said, beaten by a very committed Havant 15, lashing rain, a biting wind and temperatures just hovering above freezing.
The game saw the home side kicking off with the advantage of the stiff breeze and Cam were soon on the board when a turnover saw Joey Wood power over from 25m with just 5 mins played.
Havant, however, were soon on the board when a poorly handled restart saw Cam penalised and so after 8 mins the scoreboard showed 3-5.
Despite the Cam restart going out on the full the subsequent scrum saw Cam drive their opposition backwards but the rest of the half saw a multitude of errors from both sides with Cam scorning several clear scoring opportunities before on the stroke of half time The Flying Fijian eventually broke the deadlock with a great touch down which Smarty was unable to convert.
So with the wind and rain at their backs in the second period logic told us that the advantage must be with Cam but no one had shared the script with the hosts who proceeded to rely on a game based on powerful pick and drives and although Cam had their chances, over ambition at times together with a string of errors allowed the home side to stay in the game and after 70 mins they crossed for a well deserved try making the score 8-10.
Havant by this time had their tails up and with the Cam lineout failing and the drive in the scrum no longer evident it was in fact the hosts who then added to their score with a converted try with just a few minutes left on the clock.
To their credit Cam worked hard for the equalising try and everyone from Watchetts thought that they had achieved this in the dying seconds when Oyoni went over in the far corner but despite the ref initially awarding the score a somewhat belated flag from the touch judge saw the score disallowed and even with a number of players from both sides agreeing that the winger had stayed well within the field of play it meant that the game ended on a slightly sour note which was unfortunate as all 36 players plus the ref had worked so hard in horrendous conditions and when perhaps a share of the points would have been more appropriate.
However these things happen and this black and amber side must get much more streetwise and learn to play the opposition and the conditions better.
So we end 2018 with a bit of a dip in our fortunes and worryingly we say Greg W, Ash and Dyl all with potentially nasty injuries which, of course, we hope will all clear up by the beginning of January.
The 2s, meanwhile, continued their unbeaten run in the Zoo League with a 22-0 win on a what was claimed to be a quagmire with the official calling time after 60(ish) minutes and they also provided, particularly The Yorkshire Terrier, Rory and our frustrated Chippendale TJ, enough fun, games and alcohol on the trip back to lighten the mood.
In the meantime the squad and coaches deserve a well earned break before continuing their campaign at Dartfordians on january 5th

And Finally - so the C&Ws were not able to achieve the double over The Chiefs and with a home game against Munster and away at Castres the chances of getting to the knock out stages are pretty remote so everyone from Castle Grim will be focussed on the Prem again with their next game away to the Falcons.
