Camberley Vets take part in the augural Womens WoodenSpoon Tournament

Eight of Camberley's women team traveled to Birmingham this weekend to play in the Wooden Spoon Charity VetsFest. Joining over 700 male and female players alongside hundreds of spectators for what was an inaugural event for womens rugby.

There was a fun festival atmosphere for the day with the sun shining: this was a meeting of past ‘foes and an opportunity to make new friends on and off the pitch. The Camberley cohort were part of the Surrey, London,Herts & Chilterns Team and pioneering inspiration, Sarah Parker nee Escott whose England Shirt can be seen on the walls of the clubhouse was representing South West & Wessex. Player Nicole Edge said “ having the opportunity to play with some of the games former senior players, that set the foundations of todays womens game was wonderful, I can’t wait until next year”

Camberley RFC has a long connection with the Wooden Spoons Charity, a great charity providing grants to support projects for children with disabilities or facing disadvantage. The Camberley Vets were proud to be able to contribute with fundraising and for Camberley Head Coach Liz Waldsax the chance to put her boots back on was a moment not to be missed.

Although most of the Camberley Vets are current players having the opportunity to run out as Vets is defiantly something they are looking forward to doing again. As womens rugby progress’s this is the next era. Camberley will be hosting their own Womens Vets pitch-up & play 10th December, Contact is Vic Wilson at www.camberleyrugbyclub.co.uk > Womens Vets, and is open to all experienced players 35yrs plus
